Contemporary Homestead

Fall 2016

This contemporary homestead sits in the rolling hills of Gallatin Gateway, Montana. It is a full-time residence and working hobby farm, at the heart of which sits a mid-western contemporary farmhouse. The home’s eclectic design and architecture can be seen in the details, like the hand-hewn beams from the owner’s family that were incorporated into the house’s layout. The home also features white oak white-washed floors and a pre-cast concrete contemporary fireplace. Outside, the residence sports a traditional farmhouse exterior, matching the vibe from the working hobby farm where alfalfa is grown, bees make honey and cattle and chicken roam.

About The Project

Sourcing local Materials

This project incorporated elements of stone and wood from various reclaimed sources to achieve a midwestern contemporary farmhouse design. Sourcing these elements from the surrounding area proved challenging at times, but finding the right pieces was integral to completing the project as it was envisioned by the owners and the design team.
